New Years Resolutions You Can Actually Keep (Really)

Can you believe it’s already 2012? Assuming the Mayans were wrong and the world doesn’t actually end soon, that means we have 365 days to make this The Best Year Ever. And while it’s noble and exciting to make New Years Resolutions like “I’m going to save a life!” or “Quit my job and take a trip to Bali!” (I may have copied those from New Years Eve, the movie…) most people rarely manage to successfully maintain resolutions. So instead of setting yourself up for failure and disappointment with unrealistic resolutions, here are some goals you can actually keep to make 2012 your best year yet.

1. Call a friend each week.

2. Read a book each month.

3. Speak positively.

4. Cut off your phone and enjoy the silence.

5. Make new friends.

6. Smile more.

7. Stay informed.

8. Forgive more, get angry less. James 1:19 reminds us, “But everyone must be quick to hear, slow to speak and slow to anger.”

9. Volunteer.

10. Spend time in the Word everyday.

These aren’t monumental goals that will bring drastic changes. But I guarantee that if you choose even just three or four of these to work on throughout the year, you’ll quickly notice how much more enjoyable life will become. Good luck and Happy New Year!
