Having a completely free afternoon is like seeing a wild unicorn. They’re extremely rare, and when you find one, you aren’t totally sure what to do with it. It’s easy to take the easy way out and nap the day away. It takes cunning and gumption to make it worthwhile. Here are a couple ideas for how you can spend your afternoon:
1. Read a book on the Quad ( or your local park) – You can pop in the library and pick up some classic American literature or possible a teenage-girl-oriented post-apocalyptic fight-to-the-death romance book and head outdoors. It’s beautiful outside. A good book and sunshine make for a great afternoon.
2. Write a letter – Maybe it’s raining. Is there a better opportunity to write a letter? It’s easy to keep people updated on your life via text messaging, twitter and facebook, but there’s something special about reading something directed specifically to you in ink. Plus your mom will love it. (I know it costs 41¢. Dig it out of your pocket or from under your futon.)
3. Go Exploring – Live out the motto on your North Face jacket. Never stop exploring. Check out every shop in your city. Read every historical marker you can find. Love your city.
